Point Break Live!

2 for 1 tickets on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Critics and audiences around the nation agree, Point Break LIVE! is the best stage adaptation of an action movie in the history of the world.

Called “Hilarious” by VARIETY and “Uproarious” by the LA TIMES, “Point Break Live!” tells the story of former College-football-star-turned-FBI-agent, Johnny Utah, in pursuit of the surfing, bank robbing, skydiving bare-hand-fighting adrenaline-junkie-Zen-master Bodhi Sattva.

Okay as if that weren’t awesome enough, check this out: In Point Break LIVE! the lead role of Johnny Utah is played by an audience member. Yes, anyone can volunteer and step up to the challenge of a grueling (meaning fairly ridiculous) audition process . Using the latest in Applause-o-Meter technology, the winner is chosen by the audience and goes on to star as action hero Johnny Utah for the night, reading all the lines off of cue cards. This method really catches the essential rawness of Keanu Reeves’ acting style.

This, high action punk rock style theatrical experience comes complete with excessive gunfire , swearing, chase scenes, fight choreography, football tackles, fake blood, explosions, and of course an indoor monsoon. Mix that up with all the wonderfully iconic quotes from the movie like “Utah, get me two,” “I am an F-B-I Agent!” and “Are we going to jump or jerk off?”, add in the hotness factor- surfer dudes and female stunt doubles- and you have a night of live theater that rivals anything by Samuel Beckett in terms of pure excitement and energy.

Described by LA2day.com as “all-encompassing, wet, interactive, loud, extreme, and altogether awesome,” Point Break LIVE! is not the place to show off any new designer evening gowns. Leave your finery at home and don’t forget to buy a survival kit. You will get wet, you will be robbed at gunpoint, you will be spattered with fake blood and possibly even thrown on the floor by belligerent bank robbers or molested by over-sexed surfers, you might even get hit with a meatball sandwich. The audience is involved in the action to such a degree that HustlerofCulture.com proclaimed, “’Point Break LIVE!’ is the ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ for our generation.”

This is probably why it has sold out in extended runs in Seattle, Minneapolis, New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, Chicago and is now about to open in Louisville.

This play is intended for mature audiences. Contains nudity, strong language, gunshots, fog and strobe effects.

In 1995, while completing her MFA at The Art Institute of Chicago in Time Arts, Norton concocted her performance personae of Ninnie Naïve (based upon the classic country comedic genre of the ‘rube’; she has been described as “Alternative Minnie Pearl”, “a countryfied Laurie Anderson” and “a sarcastic hillbilly”). Currently, Ninnie is ‘Ninnie Novel Nicety’ an experimental musical performance artist that toured Europe in May and June. This is a pre-release concept album show, which features music written on the road and denotes a different city for almost each song.
